Although there are numerous studies on the communicative capacity of plants through chemical signals, the relatively recent demonstration that they also emit ultrasounds opens up a whole field of research on the capacity for agency of plants.The present project comprises the recording of the ultrasounds emitted by different plants of different species, as well as the simultaneous recording of images of the same and of the environmental conditions in which they are at each moment of the recording.
The extensive sound atlas of ultrasounds emitted by plants thus obtained is made public in the form of an interactive and expandable database, forming a corpus of ultrasound data from plants and the environmental conditions associated with their emission.From this corpus, visually classified to distinguish the ultrasounds emitted by plants from those ultrasounds from the environment, machine learning models have been trained in order to find sound patterns according to the different species and the different environmental conditions.
The project will be communicated to the public through one or more artistic installations, hoping to contribute to society incorporating into its narrative the capacity for agency (intelligence) of other non-human beings.
